Rachel Rambles About Obsidian

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
From Goodreads:
Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

I've been seeing a ton of hype for this book, but it didn't really interest me that much. I didn't get what the big deal was. Still, I was curious, so I decided to read it.

And... Now I understand why everyone's obsessed with this book. It's kind of awesome.

The best thing about this book is the main character. SHE IS A FREAKING BOOK BLOGGER. !!!!! Katy's passion for books is obvious. She's always checking the mail for books and updating her blog and posting Waiting on Wednesdays and filming In My Mailboxes. From the first chapter, when she mentions book blogging for the first time, I was completely sold on this book. Every time Katy mentions anything about blogging, I just started grinning like crazy because MY LIFE. It was really cool to read about someone who had the exact same passion I do. Book-lovers will find it really easy to relate to Katy.

ALIENS ARE AWESOME. There don't seem to be that many aliens in YA, so this is a new and refreshing idea. The aliens are fascinating and everything about their world is very thorough. Also, the plot of this book is fantastic. It's really fast-paced and exciting and there are ton of unexpected twists and turns. Before I read this, I honestly thought it was just about a hot guy and romance and making-out scenes (which there is totally nothing wrong with because that is a list of amazing things right there :P) but this book is so much more than that.

Which brings me to Daemon. He's the super hot guy. People seem to be either swooning over him because they love him so much or hating him for being such a jerkface. He definitely does have his asshole moments. But that's okay with me, only because of how Katy interacts with him. Their relationship is a lot of banter and firing insults at each other. She doesn't take any of his crap. And it's not insta-love or even love at all. Basically, they kind of hate each other but then they realize they're kind of a little bit attracted to each other and oh hey how did that happen whoops now I don't know if I hate you or not omg what is happening this is crazy. And I love it! Their relationship is really entertaining to read about.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. There is a lot of humor and suspense and action and sexytimes and I love it very much. I'm super excited to read book two!

  2. I seriously need to pick this book up! I've heard so many amazing things about it. I LOVE the fact that the main character is a book blogger! *squees* I think that's just so amazingly cool. And ALIENS! :D I've only ever read one other alien series, the Lorien Legacies series, which is one of my all time favorites. So I think I'd love reading more books about aliens, this one included. Daemon also sounds pretty great... ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed this one so much Rachel! I hope you like the second one even more. =) Fabulous review! <3
