From Goodreads: Violet McKenna thought she was crazy when she had a vivid vision of her dad’s murder—but when her premonition came true, her life fell apart. Then she found a new school: Winterhaven. There, Violet fits right in. All the students have special “gifts” like her own, and she quickly finds a close group of friends. But Violet’s attraction to an alluring boy becomes problematic when intense visions of his death start to haunt her. In her premonitions, the secret he is unwilling to share begins to reveal itself—and the unbelievable becomes reality. To Violet’s horror, she learns that their destinies are intertwined in a crictical—and deadly—way.
I think the only appropriate place to start is by saying that I absolutely LOVE THIS BOOK. If you read Rachel's Ramble about it a few weeks ago, you'll see that she cleverly listed all of the amazing things that this book has! I'll try my best to explain why this is ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME BOOKS EVER.
So there is Aidan. Who I am completely in love with. He's sexy, can read minds, and is definitely one of my favorite book boys. And no book is complete without a really hot guy to swoon over.
There was one element of this book that I wasn't so sure I was going to like. Usually vampires aren't my favorite thing because there is only so many different ways you can make the legends behind them new and creative. But the vampires in this book completely were! I haven't read any other vampire books quite like it, and I really loved what Kristi Cook did in order to make the vampires in Haven so different.
Plus, BOARDING SCHOOL BOOK. I think Rachel and I have both made it well known how much we love books that take place in boarding schools. Look! Winterhaven is a boarding school! And I kind of want to go there.
Let's talk Mirage.
From Goodreads: Seventeen-year-old Violet McKenna is back for her senior year at Winterhaven, and thrilled to be with Aidan after a long summer apart. But when a violent and disturbing vision begins to haunt her, Violet suddenly feels unsure of everything: who to trust, if she is in danger, and—worst of all—whether she and Aidan are really meant to be together.
This sequel was even better than Haven! The same characters that I loved in the first book came back stronger than ever, with the addition of a few new faces. Violet also comes back bigger and stronger than ever. She isn't as freaked out by her visions as she was in the first book. She is definitely adjusting to her life in Winterhaven. I loved seeing her character grow and stay strong to fight back the higher stakes in this book.
And um....Dr. Hottie anyone? Yeah I'm in love with him too. He is in Mirage much more than he was in Haven as he takes over Violet's coaching. I was really glad to get to see more of him and learn more about him.
So. The ending of this book killed me a little bit. I believe my exact reaction was something along the lines of AHH NO PLEASE TELL ME THAT ISN'T WHERE IT ENDS. Dear Kristi Cook, you are awesome! And dear everyone else, if somebody could get me book 3, I will love you forever.
