Rachel and Megan Ramble About Catching Jordan

Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally
From Goodreads
What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys, and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university. But now there's a new guy in town who threatens her starting position... suddenly she's hoping he'll see her as more than just a teammate.

Megan: So I just finally read this book the other day, and I'm so glad I did! I have to say I think Jordan and I have a lot in common. Rachel, I also have to thank you for pointing that out.

Rachel: Hahaha. I read this a few months ago and was all "MEGAN YOU MUST READ THIS IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE I THINK JORDAN IS YOU IN BOOK FORM." *random tidbit that you probably don't care about because why would you* Megan thinks Bianca from The Duff by Kody Keplinger is me in book form. I agree.*

Megan: Bianca totally is you! So it seems weird talking about how much I like Jordan when she's basically me. But I did really, really like her as a character. She's surrounded by a bunch of football playing guys, and she doesn't take any crap from them. Actually, she spends half the book bossing them around.

Rachel: You see, Megan plays soccer on an all-boys team right now. Which is why she can relate to Jordan playing football with a bunch of guys. And listen, sports are totally not my thing. In fact, I kind of hate football with a burning passion. But I still really enjoyed this book, which surprised me. You don't need to like sports (or even understand them) to appreciate Jordan's love for football.

Megan: Lololol soccer is some pretty good times right now... I really liked that you didn't necessarily have to understand football in order to understand what was happening to Jordan and what she was going through. It was almost like a bonus extra if you understood the football on top of everything else. Shall we mention that there are not one, but two guys in this book?

Rachel: Yesss! I haven't read many contemporary books that have love triangles, so I was a bit surprised to be introduced to TWO HOT GUYS. And it doesn't feel like Miranda Kinneally put a love triangle in just because it's The Thing To Do. The relationships Jordan has with both guys are very natural and they add a lot to the story.

Megan: Yes! Ty and Sam were different in a lot of ways and Jordan needed each of them at a different time throughout the story. While I did get frustrated with a certain someone (*cough Ty cough*) sometimes, I thought they added a lot to the story. And I was really happy with the way things ended up for Jordan in the end.

Rachel: Ty is hot and everything, but I'm totally Team Henry. I love that Henry and Jordan have been best friends forever and then they start to have all these feelings for each other.

Megan: I do too! My favorite kind of romances may just be the ones where the best friend slowly becomes the boyfriend. Jordan has a lot more issues going on in this book than just guys. Her relationship with her father was pretty screwed up.

Rachel: Yeah, of course. This book is a totally realistic portrayal of the suckiness of teenagehood, so in addition to boys, there is drama with Jordan's family.

Megan: All of the problems that Jordan had to deal with were so realistic and they were done really well. I felt so bad for her with all of this stuff going on at the same time, she was definitely overwhelmed by everything at times.

Rachel: Jordan is a really great main character. I definitely enjoyed reading from her point of view.

Megan: I enjoyed so much about this book! But I guess you can see that from all of our crazy rambling. If you've already read Catching Jordan, tell us what you thought in the comments! If not, they you should go out and buy it. Like now.

  1. You seriously play on all all boys soccer team, Megan? That is so freaking cool!
And I'm really glad to hear you still appreciated the book even though you hate football, Rachel, since I kind of have a burning hate for all things sports.
I know I'm in the teeny tiny minority, but I kind of like love triangles. Believe me when I say they definitely don't need to be in MORE books, but I can usually appreciate when they're there.
I've heard so many freaking amazing things about this book that I'm thinking it's finally time to bite the bullet and just go buy a copy :]

    1. Yeah, when I'm not playing in high school I play with the boys. Which can be pretty interesting..
I do think this was definitely a book where the love triangle aspect added to the story instead of taking away from it like they sometimes can. I really hope you like it when you get around to reading it! :)
