Rachel Rambles About Let it Snow

From Goodreads:
Sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow. A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. Thanks to three of today's bestselling teen authors—John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle—the magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses.

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. First of all, it's written by three of the best authors ever. Seriously. I love them all. So when I first read this book, I was like THIS MUST BE GOOD BECAUSE I LOVE JOHN AND MAUREEN AND LAUREN AND OMG THEY'RE ALL SO AWESOME AHHH!

And it was just as amazing as I hoped it would be. Let it Snow is about three separate romances that are very cleverly woven together. In the snow. On Christmas Eve. This is one of those books that makes me so happy whenever I read it. I love curling up with a blanket and a mug of hot chocolate as the Christmas lights twinkle outside and snowflakes flutter to the ground and it looks so beautiful. And okay, whatever. Christmas is over. I GET IT, OKAY? I'M NOT UPSET OR ANYTHING.

*cries* I love Christmas. Why can't it always be Christmas? *crickets*

Oh right. The book. So anyway, the stories are all unique and funny and surprising and romantic. And they are all connected, so characters pop in and out of the other stories and it's just so cute.

The Jubilee Express: This is the first story in the book, by Maureen Johnson. I freaking love the main character. Her name is Jubilee, which is really all you need to know. Anyone named Jubilee has to be pretty interesting. She is hysterical and kind of crazy and I can totally relate to her. When her parents end up spending Christmas in jail (Yes, jail. I'm not kidding), she is thrown on a train to Florida to go to her grandparents for the holidays. Until, you know, the train gets stuck. Jubilee winds up in the Waffle House of a tiny town, where she meets Stuart. And so begins the romance. What I really liked about this story was that it's funny and cute and actually realistic. Jubilee wasn't all OMG HE'S SO HOT I AM SO IN LOVE WITH HIM. Even though the story takes place in such a short period of time, it wasn't insta-love or anything. It felt very real and normal. So I am definitely a big fan of this story.

A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle: This is John Green's story. YAY JOHN GREEN! John had the usual mix of amazing and hysterical characters that I wish were real, including a great protagonist. Tobin <3. I really love Tobin you guys. And JP. And the Duke. Their friendship was perfectly written, and it had me laughing on pretty much every page.

Basically, it's Christmas Eve, and Tobin receives a call from his friend Keun, who is working at the Waffle House. (Yes, the same Waffle House that Jubilee and Stuart were!) Keun is all OMG YOU GUYS A WHOLE BUNCH OF CHEERLEADERS JUST WALKED IN AND YOU HAVE TO COME NOW! AND BRING TWISTER! So JP and Tobin, being typical boys, freak out at the chance to make out with hot cheerleaders. The next few hours involve them attempting to drive through the snow to get to the Waffle House, and when that doesn't work, they end up traveling on foot. Tobin, JP, and the Duke trek through the snow at like, four in the morning, armed with nothing but a game of Twister.

The three friends finally reach the Waffle House, after a long and hilarious journey. But does Tobin really care about the cheerleaders? He and the Duke have been best friends for so long. But will their relationship ever become something more? WILL IT? HMMM. I GUESS YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!

The Patron Saint of Pigs: This is by Lauren Myracle, and I just adore her. The main character Addie just went through a break-up with her boyfriend, so she's sad and lonely for the holidays. Her pain is really understandable, and she just feels like a typical teenage girl. When Addie shows up to work the crazy early morning shift at Starbucks, she is definitely not expecting such an eventful day. But soon enough she's running to pet stores and looking for pigs and getting rides from guys she just wants to stay away from and dealing with crazy people, the whole time wondering why her (ex!) boyfriend couldn't even bother to call her. There's some great supporting characters in this story, too. *coughTeganDorrieandChristinacough* And by the last few pages, where loose ends are tied up and the stories all merge into one, I was laughing and gasping and crying it was so good.

All of these stories are clever and funny and exciting and thoughtful and just OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK. It's perfect for the holidays, or even in the middle of the summer when you wish it was the holidays. This book makes me want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere in a snowstorm on Christmas Eve. I know I keep saying this, but I just love this book so much.

If you haven't read it, DO IT NOW. It's amazing.

  1. You just summed up my feelings PERFECTLY! I first picked up Let it Snow because of John Green (duh!), but completely fell in love with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle, who I hadn’t read before. I also fell in love with Tobin. And Jubilee. And Addie. And every single character in this utterly fantastic book!
